MGP Chapter One: Out of the Shadows is MGP Ingredients' first whiskey released under its own name, marking the distillery's return to its historic Lawrenceburg, Indiana site after decades of producing whiskey for other well-known brands without a label of its own. This 10 year straight bourbon was aged the entirety of its life in Rickhouse G, built from MGP's historic LSSV mash bill, and selected and blended by Master Distiller Ian Stirsman. Bottled at 111 proof (55.5% ABV), it opens with butterscotch, burnt sugar, molasses, and cherry on the nose. The palate carries cherry cola, raspberry, chocolate, and sassafras layered over leather, finishing long with lingering cherry cola and sassafras. This is the opening chapter of a planned series from MGP, and a rare chance to taste the distillery's own expression of a mash bill that's shaped countless other bourbons on the shelf.
