El Dorado 15 Year Old Special Reserve opens with a full nose of dark coffee, candied orange, almonds, dark chocolate, pepper, and rich vanilla. The palate is beautifully rounded, spreading grilled tropical fruit over smooth oaky spice for a silky, vibrant, moderately full-bodied pour. It's a blend of specially selected aged rums — some as old as 25 years — drawn from the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, and the Versailles single wooden pot still, all aged in old bourbon oak casks and bottled at 40% ABV. Produced by Demerara Distillers, the last remaining distillery in Guyana, it carries the craftsmanship of nine different stills and over twenty rum styles under one roof. Long regarded as the Caribbean's premier rum and a frequent award winner, it's viewed as a cognac-like expression with an intriguing, complex character. Best enjoyed long and slow, straight or on the rocks.
