Diplomático Planas is the modern successor to the brand's original Blanco Reserva, aged six years and bottled at a bolder 47% ABV. The nose is intoxicating, layering banana, cocoa butter, brown spice, and baked apple, while the palate turns luscious and mouth-filling, with banana and toasted coconut leading into a creamy, milk-chocolate finish touched by cappuccino and a nutty edge. Because Venezuelan law requires rum to age at least two years before bottling, some of the rums in this blend rest considerably longer before being charcoal filtered up to six times to strip away all color. The result is a remarkably smooth, refined white rum, voted Wine Enthusiast's Spirit of the Year. It's a standout choice for a well-made mojito or daiquiri.
