93 Points Wine Spectator NEW! Leave it to the Wagners to seek out prime, old vine Petite Sirah in Suisun Valley, a warmer zone just to the east of Napa Valley better known for their peaches and apricots. This is a big, black, juicy Petite Sirah with notes of toasted herbs, deep boysenberry fruit, prunes, and complexers like tobacco, black cherry, and baking spices. The style of this wine is full throttle and no holds barred - rich, ripe, and begging for a big rack of prime rib. If you love Caymus Cabernet, you’re going to flip for this one. Suisun (su-soon) Valley, which lies to the Southeast of Caymus, is only a 40-minute drive and reminds the Wagner family of Napa Valley 40 years ago. With its warm days and cool nights, the region is known for delicious stone fruits and walnuts – increasingly, it is also gaining recognition for its wine. Durif is synonymous with Petite Sirah, the widely grown grape in the region – they added “Grand” to the name of the Suisun-grown Durif because it has a grand style. With lush textural tannins, this wine is rich, supple and totally enjoyable.
