It has a deep almost-opaque ruby colour, and an intense and complex aroma, notable for its ripe fruit and spicy notes such as ginger and cloves. It also harbours a woody resin component and aromas suggestive of tobacco box and cedar, as well as a floral rockrose component. The palate is very intense and complex, with high-quality tannins and a fine acidity. With ripe red berries, cedar and cloves especially present, it delivers a long and harmonious finish. Ideal with chocolate-rich desserts, such as mousse, parfaits, cakes and truffles and red fruit tarts, creamy cheeses, or on its own, say, accompanying a cigar.
