At the heart of the brand is the legend of Walter Steam—a fictional craftsman whose story intertwines steam power, metalworking, and traditional distilling. Inspired by the historic Corktown neighborhood and the enduring presence of Michigan Central Station, the Steam & Co. narrative celebrates the spirit of invention that helped build Detroit.

According to the legend, Walter Steam was born in 1806 into a family of distillers and later became fascinated with the emerging steam locomotives of the 19th century. After surviving a devastating boiler explosion, he forged a distinctive metal mask and dedicated his life to combining the power of steam with the craftsmanship of distilling. Though his story was eventually lost to time, it was said to have been rediscovered during renovations in Corktown, inspiring the creation of Steam & Co. Distillery.

Today, Steam & Co. continues that legacy with a lineup of premium Michigan-made spirits, including Constitution Bourbon in 2-Year, 4-Year, and 8-Year expressions, alongside expertly crafted gin and vodka.
